Why Blog?

I ask myself this question all the time.

1. Makes Our Family Public: This is probably the hardest to deal with. Is it "safe" to make our family so public? I have briefly thought I might make the blog private to only friends and family, but I don't want to do this (refer to D.). For me, when a blog goes private I say good-bye to that blog and the family on it. It is too much work to ask to read their blog. Should I not post pictures of our kids faces? I don't want to do this either, because our kids are very cute and without them the blog would be very boring...

2. Self Centered: Blogs can feel very self centered to readers at times. Look what I did! Look at my beautiful family! We are so perfect and wonderful and do really great things! Our blog doesn't show the dirty floors, dishes in the sink, the ugly things I've made, the super boring things we do...only the good stuff. I really hope our blog doesn't seem self centered. Maybe I will do a post about dirt and dysfunction to balance things out a bit.

After much reflection these are the reasons I blog...

A. Family Far Away: This blog started as an easy way to share photos and stories for family and friends who live far away.

B. Creative Outlet: The blog is another creative outlet for me. It gives me a chance to share the photos I'm proud of and do a little bit of writing. There are many blogs out there that have inspired me to use my blog creatively.

C. Therapeutic: During some rough times it has been very therapeutic for me to write my feelings and get support from others in blogland. This post, this one, this post, and this one are just a few that have helped me through some ups and downs. This leads into D.

D. Connections: Blogging has brought to me several lifelong friends, who I never would have met if it wasn't for our blog. The support I have received through these connections has gotten me through some tough times.

E. Shamelessly...Free Advertising: I have a small craft business...if you didn't know this already. Blogging about my "shop" and my crafts brings me business. I love sewing and creating for others.

In conclusion...I will be a blogger for a while.

Whew!

When I first saw this, my heart raced because I thought you were going to stop... WHEW!

Four very great reasons. I often ask myself the same thing, and for me at this point, connections and therapy are the biggest reasons I still do it too. :)

I agree!!

Sometimes blogs (bad ones) start to sound a lot like those horrible braggy holiday letters that people send, crowing about their brilliant and perfect families.

But most of the blogs I read are much better than that - like yours!!

Please keep it up!

Well put. . . Your blog has been a lifeline for us here in Florida. . .

It makes us feel apart of your lifes when we are not there, or you are not here. You do an amazing job with everyone of your post and the memories they contain for you and us all are priceless, precious and beyond measure. Always hard being away from your family you love so much. . . Your photos, words and love has made it easier and that is saying something huge. Being apart never goes away and having you guys all in our hearts doesn't either. We are fortunate for our relationship with you all near or far and this is cherished in the both of us. We heave a sigh of relief the "Blinkin Blog" waves on uncensored and just as it should be a reflection of who you are and everything you want to be, do and express. . .
We thank you and Love You All!! VERY MUCH. . .

P.S. Can't wait for "THE DIRTY DISHES IN THE SINK" post. . .

Autumn I have so felt the same way so many times! My list is similar to yours. Sometimes I probably need to vent about the drama so all things look normal, but then I think that most people probably don't put that much thought into my blog. I think it is about transparency. Sometimes I have a hard time with how transparent I should be on my blog...but then I will read someone pouring their guts out in a post and I love how in touch with them you can feel. It connects us all. You do such a good job with your blog! And I don't think it is vain to show pictures of the talent God has given you or the little blessings you get to mother. Plus it really helps faraway friends feel that they are experiencing a bit of your life. :) :) :)
