Today's Photo Shoot

I used this familiar background for another photo shoot of some new dolls. I made this doll for Mezmur. It is a Mommy/Autumn doll.
The following dolls will be for sale at the Alberta Art Hop in a couple of weeks. I can't wait to be surrounded by crafty people who are all selling their goods on my favorite street!

New white kitty.I love putting a bird dress onto a kitty.
I hope all of these dollies find a good home...

A REAL Room For the Happy Couple

We have been married for almost 10 years and we have never owned furniture for our room.
We finally have a "real" bedroom!
So, that is the dresser and mirror that we got at that really awesome Estate sale. When I saw this dresser I HAD to have it! It was the dresser I pictured for our room. I took the tag off of it so fast. I was a crazy Estate sale lady that day. There was a couple talking about the dresser and debating the purchase of it, but if you snooze you loose at Estate sales...sorry. I took that tag out from under their nose so fast. This was in the master bedroom. The bed had already sold. I was bummed, but happy to get the dresser of my dreams for a great price.
A couple of days later I checked Craigslist for a bed. I was looking for the bed from the sale. I just knew a dealer had snatched it up. The first bed I looked at was "our" bed. I just knew it was the bed from the sale. I went and looked at it at a vintage shop on Hawthorne. It was the match! the color was the same, the trim was the same, and there were other things from the sale there. Sure, it was probably double in price, but to have the bed and dresser reunited again...priceless.
I was so happy we not only got a matching bed, but we got THE bed from the sale! I was so happy to keep the set together...I bet the original owner would be pleased.
Here is the headboard...
The lamp? Well, I bought it at Value Village about 3 years ago. It has been in our garage all this time. I have almost gotten rid of it many times, but I thought...one day I'll have the perfect spot for it.
Oh, there are big plans for the rest of our room. Such as...THIS QUILT! I can't wait to get started on it! It may take me 10 more years just to finish the quilt, but it will be worth it.

Happy Earth Day

I told you we love nature and so does our friend...
The Trio.
I was telling Abe that he probably shouldn't eat the dandelions. I said it was "yucky."
Mez heard the word "yucky" and I knew what she was going to do. I saw the wheels spinning. Her tongue came out as she looked for the closest thing she could lick...then she licked the tree.
She's a tree licker for this Earth Day.

We Love Nature and Eugene in the Springtime

We took a post tax day trip to visit Aunt Anne and Uncle Ryan in Eugene last weekend. It was a beautiful weekend, so we spent much of our time outside.
Did you know it is ladybug mating season? Well, it is...this was what we found in a couple corners of our first nature walk.

Ladybugs were everywhere.
This is a big step for Mezmur. She usually gets a little nervous around bugs, which she lovingly calls, "butts."
Back at Ryan and Anne's we had some trumpet time...my ears may still be ringing. Heaven help us if Rhett wants to learn how to play the trumpet.

Bird watching on our walk the next day.

We always love our trips to Eugene...Thanks for the fun time Anne and Ryan

My New Dress

I had a vision for the dress I wanted, so I went to one of my favorite Japanese sewing books. I found this dress that I was going to use for the pattern.
It was a success. I'm so excited about it. I added elastic around the waist...giving it more shape.
I finished this dress up by serging the hem at Modern Domestic. One day I will own my very own serger...one day.
There are many more of these dresses in my future. I plan on changing the neck line and maybe add some pockets. I love sewing for myself...I just wish there were more hours in the day to sew everything I want to sew.

A Girl On The Move

This little girl takes her activities very seriously. Don't talk to her and please don't say "no", because you will get this look...
Don't get me wrong...she is a happy girl.
Just don't even think about saying "no."
"Bye."

Modern Domestic

There's a new sewers paradise in town...MODERN DOMESTIC. If you love to sew, but don't have a machine, if you are dying to use a fancy Bernina, if you want to buy a fancy Bernina, if you want to learn how to sew, if you want to learn how to sew underwear, if you want to be part of an awesome sewing community...COME TO MODERN DOMESTIC. Not only does MD have an awesome list of learn to sew and advanced sewing classes, but they offer drop in sewing for a small fee. This small fee allows you to come, sew on a fancy Bernina, use the BabyLock serger, spread out your project all over without worrying about a cat or kid, and use the tables to cut or trace your pattern...trust me, it is a dream space. If you really want to have some fun...come to the Friday night sew-cial. What a great community of sewers we have in our neighborhood! Thanks L, M, and G for opening up such a great space! You are inspiring so many with the opening of MODERN DOMESTIC.
I feel so honored and excited to be a part of Modern Domestic. I taught my first class there a couple of weeks ago and it was a dream. The space is amazing. I can't wait until my next class! My next class is the grocery tote from the I (heart) Patchwork book. It is the cutest grocery tote ever...it folds up into it's own little pocket when you want to store them in your glove box. The seams are all french seams, so that heavy bottle of wine won't tear open the seams. This was an awesome skill for me to practice and it would be an awesome skill for YOU to learn. If you are interested in this class...contact MODERN DOMESTIC.

Old People Have Really Good Taste or I Have Old People Taste

Dan and I love a good Estate sale. We don't go very often, but when we do...we usually come home with a treasure. Last weekend we hit the mother lode. Look at this little girl I found last weekend. Is she the cutest thing you have ever seen? She is printed on linen and hanging in our dining room now. She will end up in Mezmur's room or the quiet corner.
This tray I found at an estate sale and I just love it. I can't put it away...
I love my vintage sewing box I found for $7 dollars at a different estate sale.
This was another piece from the mother of all Estate sales. Dan and I have been married for almost ten years. TEN YEARS and we have never owned a piece of furniture for our bedroom. Our room has sat empty with a bed frame and mattress. We never hung anything on the wall, because we had no furniture. Well, now thanks to an old woman with great taste...we have a dresser. I'll post some "after" photos of our room...soon.
Estate sales make me a little sad. There was once a woman just as excited about this dresser as I am, but today she has no use for it and sold it to a stranger. If only she knew that it went to a really great home. We also bought her Christmas tree stand, set of four chairs, the mirror that matches our dresser...and just to give you an idea of the great deal we got all this for...we also got a bed for $22.

It's That Time Again

Time to make our Easter nest treats.
The secret ingredient...sounds terrible, but the nests are terribly delicious.

The best part of helping Mommy cook...
Rhett is very proud and excited to eat his first nest.
