I'm a hard core thrifter. On average, I go to one of my favorite thrift stores every two weeks. I have a list of things I like to collect and a list of things I hope to find. Usually, I walk away with a new book for Rhett or maybe a cardigan for me, but every once in a while I get that little heart flutter I call the "Goodwill High."
Often, my thrifting will happen on Saturday morning as a little "get away." Last weekend I found a cathrineholm enamelware for $3.99. My heart skipped a beat when I saw it just sitting there with all the other metal housewares. I was so giddy, I called Dan while I was still in the store to tell him what I found.
On my list of things I collect that I'm always on the hunt for is vintage Fisher Price toys. The Little People are my favorite. In the past I've found the barn and the schoolhouse at Goodwill, but never any little people. Well, a couple of weeks ago I hit the Little People mother lode. There was a house I didn't have and a barn FULL of little people and accessories. I brought them up to the register and said, I wanted the house and everything that was inside the barn. He just included everything with the cost of the house! The house and all the little people for $7.99! I mean...the cowboy with his mustache and his little lady...sort of made my day.
This is on my list of something I hope to find one day...Kaj Franck enamelware. Sure, I could buy it for $150 on Ebay, but why? One day, this will be mine...for about $4.99.
Remember THIS? The print is happily hanging next to our bed. Other things on my collection list are vintage Pyrex and some Fire King milk glass.
I have a few of those Pyrex bowls and a few of the Bonnie Blue Bell saucers.
Some may call me a hoarder, but I call myself a savy collector.
